How to Become a Licensed Esthetician (Facial Specialist) in Florida

If you're interested in becoming a licensed esthetician (known as a Facial Specialist in Florida), here's a step-by-step guide to help you understand the process:

Eligibility Requirements

  • Age and Education: You must be at least 16 years old or have a high school diploma (or equivalent).

  • Training Hours: Complete the minimum of 220 hours in a state-approved facial specialty training program at Pristine Beauty Academy.

  • HIV/AIDS Course: Successfully complete a board-approved 4-hour HIV/AIDS course within two years prior to your application. Program is included in your tuition at Pristine Beauty Academy.

Steps to Obtain Your License

Enroll in a Florida-Approved Facial Specialist Program like the one provided at Pristine Beauty Academy.

At Pristine Beauty Academy, we offer a comprehensive program designed to meet the state's 220-hour training requirement. Our courses combine hands-on practice with theoretical knowledge to ensure you're fully prepared for the industry.

Complete an HIV/AIDS Course as part of your Pristine Beauty Academy curriculum.

This is a mandatory 4-hour course that covers prevention and safety standards. We provide guidance on how to complete this requirement during your program.

Submit Your Application

Apply to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Your application must include:

  • A completed application form.
  • Proof of training hours and HIV/AIDS course completion provided by Pristine Beauty Academy.
  • A $75 application fee.

Note: Unlike many states, Florida does not require a separate licensing exam.

Obtain Your License

Once approved, you'll receive your license and can begin practicing as a licensed Facial Specialist in Florida. At Pristine Beauty Academy, we own and operate real spas and job placement is an option.

Licensure by Endorsement (For Out-of-State Applicants) If you hold an active license in another state with comparable or stricter requirements, you may qualify for licensure by endorsement.

You'll need to:

  • Complete the 4-hour HIV/AIDS course provided at Pristine Beauty Academy.
  • Submit proof of your current license and education hours.
  • Provide a completed application and pay the required fees.

Continuing Education and License Renewal

  • Florida requires you to renew your license every two years by October 31st.
  • During each renewal period, you must complete 16 hours of continuing education.
  • Continuing Education Hours and Reporting are provided by Pristine Beauty Academy.
